A useful fit for

A household that mostly removes air from dry portions in compatible FoodSaver zipper-valve bags and accepts a rechargeable, hand-positioned pump.

The main tradeoff

It cannot make or heat-seal bags from rolls. Exact SKU bundle contents, charger or dock inclusion, stock status, and battery chemistry are not established.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

If I opt into earlier models, can this rechargeable pump evacuate a compatible zipper-valve bag?

Yes, for the documented dry-food valve-bag routine. Close the zipper completely, keep food clear of the valve and hold the pump over it until the bag is evacuated.

Can it vacuum and heat-seal an open-end bag cut from a roll?

No. This is a valve-bag pump, not an external heat-sealing machine; it has no roll cutter or seal bar.

Can I require a dedicated manual Pulse button for delicate foods?

No. The FS1000 guide describes the Vacuum button and accessory connection but no dedicated user-controlled Pulse setting.

The FoodSaver V1100 / FS1110 is best understood as a small rechargeable pump for one packaging system, not a countertop vacuum sealer with a missing lid. Its useful job is evacuating air through the valve on a compatible zipper bag. It does not close an ordinary open-end bag or make a sealed pouch from roll stock. If your main routine is portioning food in open bags, start with a countertop model instead.

Choose the valve bag before the pump

This handheld is practical when a container of dry food is opened repeatedly and you want to remove air again without cutting away bag material. The bag needs its matching valve and a fully closed zipper; a regular sandwich bag or open-end heat-sealing bag is not interchangeable. Lay the bag flat with the valve facing up, leave food away from the valve, and place the pump squarely over it. The manual directs you to hold the Vacuum button until the air is removed, then release it. There is no dedicated Pulse mode for gradually stopping a delicate item from compressing.

The food boundary matters. The FS1000 guide says not to put liquids into zipper bags. For soup, sauce or other liquid, it points to a container and refrigeration, which is a different setup. It also describes an accessory port for optional jar sealers, bottle stoppers and canisters after removing the clear reservoir. The same guide also documents FoodSaver Fresh Containers that seal at a green valve; that is another option if you already own one or buy a compatible container separately. These are usage routes, not a promise that every box includes the attachments. FoodSaver’s Canadian manufacturer listing for exact SKU 2159391 identifies the V1100 and lists a charging dock plus two quart-size zipper bags. That regional page does not establish U.S. package parity or the contents of separate SKU 2185552. Do not assume a jar attachment, canister or Fresh Container is included.

Charging is part of the routine

The pump is rechargeable, but the model-family manual calls for at least a 24-hour first charge and another 24-hour charge every six months. Its indicator does not report a percentage, so do not count on it to tell you precisely how much charge remains before a long session. The manual also notes that a charger or dock is available only with selected models. The exact U.S. retail-box contents remain unverified. FoodSaver’s Canadian listing for 2159391 specifies a dock and two quart bags, but does not establish the U.S. box or the bundle for 2185552. Check the actual seller listing for the included charger, stand and supplies before ordering.

Battery chemistry is not a safe basis for a purchase decision. FoodSaver support maps V1100 to FS1110. A Consumer Care answer calls the V1100 battery lithium-ion, while the manufacturer’s December 2025 embedded-products letter lists both FS1110 SKUs as NiMH. Those official sources conflict; the practical fact is that the pump recharges, while chemistry remains unknown. The 2159391 package detail cited above is from Canada; the U.S. bundle and 2185552 package remain unverified.

Cleaning is small but not optional

Food can be drawn toward the removable clear reservoir if it is close to the valve. The manual says to unplug the equipment, wipe the powered body rather than immerse it, empty and hand-wash the reservoir, and let it dry before reassembly. That is simpler than cleaning a large countertop unit, but it still means the reservoir needs attention after a messy bag or spill. Keep liquids out of the zipper-bag route rather than relying on a small catch chamber as a liquid program.

What it does not replace

Without a heat-sealing bar, this pump cannot cut bags from a roll, vacuum a normal open bag and seal its edge, or produce two heat-seal lines. It also has no documented numerical cycle-rest or continuous-session rating in the short manual. That makes it hard to recommend as the only sealer for a household that packs many fresh portions at once. Its strengths are narrower: a charged handheld can be moved to the valve bag, and the user controls when to stop the vacuum by releasing the button.

The FoodSaver Mini FS3100 is a more current handheld comparison if you want an automatic valve-bag cycle and a programmed Marinate function; the documented black 2217128 package lists its dock and two quart zipper bags. The FoodSaver Handheld+ MS2010 / MS2030 adds a mains-powered countertop heat-sealing base alongside its detachable rechargeable pump, so it is the better fit if one household needs both open-end bags and valve bags. Those are not merely bigger versions of the V1100: each adds a different operating plan and package commitment.

Who should consider this earlier model

Choose the V1100 / FS1110 only if compatible zipper bags are already central to your routine, you are comfortable charging an older handheld, and an earlier model reference is acceptable. FoodSaver’s U.S. product URL for SKU 2159391 redirects to its catalog, and a dated Consumer Care reply said the V1100 was not then in stock (February 2025); neither establishes present availability or formal discontinuation. The Canadian manufacturer page lists a dock and two quart bags for the same numeric SKU, but does not establish U.S. package contents or availability. Search “FoodSaver V1100 FS1110 2159391” and inspect the seller’s actual box contents. If you need a general-purpose machine for rolls, want a documented included accessory kit, or need a current seller-backed package, compare the Mini or Handheld+ before committing.

Key details at a glance

Mechanismhandheld
Power and chargingThe pump uses a rechargeable battery. The FS1000 manual calls for at least 24 hours on the initial charge and a 24-hour charge every six months; its indicator does not show a charge level. Official battery references conflict on chemistry, and this model family manual says charging dock/charger availability varies by model, so neither chemistry nor included charging hardware is assumed.
Operating intervalPlace the pump over the zipper valve and hold Vacuum until the bag is evacuated, then release. The manual gives no numerical cycle interval, session capacity or continuous-duty rating.
Supplies and accessoriesUse compatible FoodSaver zipper-valve bags; ordinary open-end heat-sealing rolls are not sealed by this handheld. The FS1000 manual also documents FoodSaver Fresh Containers and optional jar sealers, bottle stoppers, canisters and other accessory-port attachments. FoodSaver’s official Canadian listing for exact numeric SKU 2159391 specifies a dock and two quart-size bags; it does not establish U.S. package parity or the contents of SKU 2185552. Do not assume other attachments or containers are included.
Care and storageUnplug before cleaning. Wipe the powered body rather than immersing it; remove, empty and hand-wash the clear reservoir with warm soapy water, then air-dry it.
